"Trouble is Colin, I'm not political and just don't want to play the game". I had heard this any number of times in the talent pool. "I don't think I want to be a director because this company is so political" was another common sentiment. With over 50 highly talented managers to look after as a professional mentor I knew I had to act. So began the search for a training provider who could equip them with the awareness and skill to feel comfortable to progress their careers, safe in the knowledge that they would not need to "sell their souls". "What you need to do Colin is help them to explore Emotional Intelligence" said several. "Perhaps if we work on their interpersonal skills.....". said more. All important but most we had already done. |

Nobody could hit the mark. We needed something to provide them with an in-depth insight into how power works within organisations and the tactics that people use to push forward their agendas. Oh and not forgetting some practical no nonsense methods for dealing with abuses honestly. Eventually, I was introduced to Mike Phipps. Together we developed a workshop to tackle these difficult issues. It was a roaring success and ultimately led to the establishment of Politics at Work. A company that is confronting this taboo subject with courage and conviction, committed to making the world of work an easier place for honest success to flourish. Colin Gautrey, December 2003 |
